Do i need to have previous information from other Elder Scrolls games to understand Skyrim?

I am thinking about getting Skryim, but im not entirely sure because Skyrim would be the 1st Elder Scrolls game i have ever played. Im worried that im not going to understand the Skyrim story because i haven't played any other Elder Scrolls game, so im going to be confused if i get it. Please can someone tell me if this is true? That i need to play the other games to understand whats going on? ThanksDo i need to have previous information from other Elder Scrolls games to understand Skyrim?
You don't need to play the other games, the story is different in each game. If you ever get bored of skyrim (that will take a long time...) you can always buy TES IV: Oblivion and TES III: Morrowind.Do i need to have previous information from other Elder Scrolls games to understand Skyrim?
Yes and no. Yes because some of the characters are the same, and all elder scrolls games have similar features, ex: magc, weps, armors, etc. But also no because the story is different every single time. So to sun it all up:

Yes: familiarization with game features

No: not same storyDo i need to have previous information from other Elder Scrolls games to understand Skyrim?
Not at all. You'll understand a bit more having played the previous games, but overall Skyrim has nothing to do with them.
not really im the same as you i had never played an elder scrolls game before this and i just picked it up and played it,its a great play and has tons of replay value, it is really worth all the hype and the few references to the other elder scrolls games there are, they're all explained throughout the game play.
