they say that Shivering Isles is an expansion pack for the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.. what does that mean??? does that mean Shivering isles is exactly the same as oblivion except it has more things or more places etc??? An expansion pack is just that, an EXPANSION of the original game. Shivering Isles is an add-on to Oblivion, and you must own Oblivion to play Shivering Isles.

instead of making a whole new game pc games make expansion packs to add things they didn't get done by the time of the games release. unlike the xbox games ninja gaiden black, fable the lost chapters, and ESIII: morrowind GOTY edition you do need an original copy of the game. so oblivion is the game and shivering isles is the extra stuff.
