In Elder Scrolls Skyrim, do you level up your skill faster by putting a point in that tree?

In Elder Scrolls Skyrim, do you level up your skill faster by putting a point in that tree? For example, I want to level up lockpicking and I'm only making a small amount of progress each successful pick. If I put a point in the first skill bubble (novice lockpicking), will I get more skill points per successful pick?In Elder Scrolls Skyrim, do you level up your skill faster by putting a point in that tree?
No. However you can increase the speed of training lockpicking and other skills by using the stones located around the map. The Thief, Warrior and Mage stones are located near Embershard Mine just south west of Riverwood. These 3 stones (can only have 1 activated at any time) grant you a 20% boost in the experience you gain in the governing skills.
The Warrior governs Archery, Block, Heavy Armor, One-Handed, Two-Handed and Smithing.
The Mage governs Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Illusion, Restoration and Enchanting.
The Thief governs Alchemy, Light Armor, Lockpicking, Pickpocket, Sneak and Speech.
As you are wanting to get up lockpicking I suggest travelling to The Guardian stones and activating the Thief one. At a later date you can activate any of the other stones so you do not have to commit yourself to the thief.
No, it still levels the same, I'm afraid.

The best way to increase your lockpick skill is to pick tougher locks, I find. Master locks sometimes increase you by a full level.

An easy way of doing this is join the Thieves' Guild. You will come accross plenty of locks doing their missions, and after a while you get a skeleton key. It works just like a lockpick, but doesn't break.

(Don't complete the Thieves' Guild missions until you are at the desired level in lockpicking as you'll need to give the skeleton key away at the end.)In Elder Scrolls Skyrim, do you level up your skill faster by putting a point in that tree?
