Why do you always start as a prisoner in the elder scrolls?

i mean it makes no sense? and does that mean we start as a prisoner in skyrim? im not talking about all the elder scrolls im talking about 3 and 4.Why do you always start as a prisoner in the elder scrolls?
I guess there' no real explanation. The whole idea of being in prison gives some good Role-play ideas though, and you don't necessarily have to have done something bad, it might have been the case you were imprisoned for some misunderstanding.

Oh, and yes, you will be a prisoner in skyrim. The game starts with your character being led to his/her execution.
I always wondered that, but at least in Morrowind there is an explanation as to why you're there, in Oblivion not even the freaking emperor could figure it out. I think in Skyrim though, you'll start out somewhere different considering it's more of a woodland and mountains kind of game rather than a somewhat industrialized city. Why do you always start as a prisoner in the elder scrolls?
If you have oblivion for pc there is a mod that gives you an alternate beginning where you start in a ship... apparently like the beginning in morrowind
IDK maybe its just because they like to use the cliche' "Rags to Riches" story line. Forget about Elder Scrolls, Buy Bioshock Infinity. Why do you always start as a prisoner in the elder scrolls?
prolly cause the game before that
