It's quiet difficult to say whether it will be a direct sequel because they never done a direct sequel with Elder Scrolls series as far as I know before but I think because they did Fallout 3 and possibly learn that sometimes a game is awesome when the universe that they are now are continuesly expanded into a new territory but without forgetting the previous series so instead just making a new chapter they make it a new chapter and at the same time incorporating the previous series together with the new. So whether it will be a direct sequel the possibility is high, and if I was a game developer and already making 4 completely different series I would want to cross all the borders and not just joint one series but maybe all together into on big massive universe and expand the universe at the same time. Example like Warhammer/Warcraft/Starcraft and Forgotten Realms. I think Bethesda grown alot in terms of story telling if they do like that.
