Do you need to be familiar with the first four Elder Scrolls before playing Skyrim?

I'm looking to get this as a gift, but I'm pretty sure the person I'm getting it for hasn't played any other Elder Scrolls.Do you need to be familiar with the first four Elder Scrolls before playing Skyrim?
Not at all. Skyrim takes place 200 years after Oblivion, the last Elder Scrolls game. Be warned though. Some side effects of Skyrim include:

Loss of sleep

Fatness

Never getting laid

Never seeing him again

Slipping grades

A loss of caring for anything else that isn't Skyrim.

Besides those, you're good.
Not really, since skyrim takes place 200 years after the 4th elder scrolls game there isn't much story linked to the other games. There are a few refferences but I think that's just to put a smile on the faces of people who have played the other games.Do you need to be familiar with the first four Elder Scrolls before playing Skyrim?
You don't need to know the previous titles. Nevertheless, I would recommend playing Oblivion anyway, just because it's also a ton of fun.
No, but there are some references to earlier Elder Scrolls games, like Oblivion, where Uriel Septim is mentioned. But it is a completely new story.Do you need to be familiar with the first four Elder Scrolls before playing Skyrim?

No, but I would recommend getting him Oblivion and Morrowind also.
You don't HAVE to, but some of the in-universe references will probably mean less to you.
